A Mass of Christian for 96-year old Nellie Green of Atlantic will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 19, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic. The wearing of a mask or face covering is recommended. The service will be live-streamed at www.sspeterpaulandmary.org. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Burial will be in the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, beside her husband, Glenn.
Nellie Esther Green, 96, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Thursday, January 13, 2022, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Nellie was born on November 5, 1925, to William and Anna (Shimon) Wilson at rural Rolfe, Iowa. She graduated from Plover, Iowa High School in 1943, and attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. She met her husband, Glenn B. Green at their workplace in Des Moines after World War II, and were married April 3, 1948, in the chapel of St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines. They moved to Atlantic in 1951, where Glenn was stationed with the Iowa Highway Patrol for the next 24 years. When the children went to school, Nell was employed by Publishers News for 15 years until the company discontinued its business in Atlantic.
Nell was a devoted mother and grandmother, very committed to her family and home. She was so proud of her grandchildren; her two grandsons became Eagle Scouts, Laura and Julie became teachers and Sharon completed her English Degree. Nell was a long-time member of the SS Peter and Paul Sewing Circle.
Glenn passed away on January 13, 1975, and Nell continued making her home in Atlantic.
Surviving are three children, Susan (John) McKee of Windsor Heights, Iowa, Steven (Donna) Green of Atlantic, and Thomas Green of Whitmore Lake, Michigan; five grandchildren, Sharon McKee, Laura (Nathan) Scott, Andy (Michelle) Green, Julie Green and Alex Green; four great-grandsons, Gavin and Brogan Scott and Augie and Cyrus Green; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her three brothers, Thomas, George and Donald Wilson.
Visitation with the family present will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 18th at Roland Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church Memorial Fund.
