(Atlantic) Sergeant Bluff-Luton crowned three champions, one runner-up, five third-places, and captured the team title at Saturday’s 43rd Annual Rollin Dyer wrestling tournament in Atlantic.
Ethan Skoglund (106), Bo Koedam (126), and Zander Ernst (152) claimed titles.
The Warriors edged Underwood 199.5 to 195. Blake Allen (120), Gable Porter (132), Stevie Barnes (138), and Hagen Heistand (145) stood atop the podium for the Eagles. Porter also earned the “Rollin Dyer Most Outstanding Wrestler Award.”
Bondurant-Farrar placed four wrestlers in the finals and took home one top finish; Connor Fiser (113). The Bluejays finished third overall with 143.0 points.
Atlantic/CAM finished fourth out of the sixteen-team field with 143.0 points. The Trojans crowned one champion, Kadin Stutzman (170). “I hadn’t won my home tournament until today,” said Stutzman. “I’ve been in the finals twice, and I set a goal to win this tournament and put forth 110-percent.”
Stutzman defeated senior Porter Smith of Bondurant-Farrar in the final match by a 13-2 major decision. “I broke him in the first period and kept going,” said Stutzman. “I’ve been fighting to win this one, and I’ve had some tough kids in my brackets over the years. I am putting a lot into this season.”
Atlantic/CAM Head Coach Tim Duff says the tournament featured many outstanding teams. “For us, there is a lot of learning to be done and some areas we need to improve on,” said Duff. “When you wrestle those tough kids, you’ve got to score the first takedown, and those matches we lost, we fell behind early. We have to have the mindset of going out and being aggressive and set the tone mentally.
“Physically, I thought we looked alright,” said Duff. “I think there is room to improve and potential on this team to score a lot of points at these tough tournaments.”
