(Corning, IA) — Southwest Valley baseball has not played a game since last Tuesday, June 2 and is 2-2 on the season — the Timberwolves visit Fremont Mills in a non conference game tonight.
Southwest had two conference games postponed because of weather and Head Coach Keegan Longabaugh and his club are itching to take the field. Longabaugh would like to see the pitching and defense improve but he is happy with the way his boys are swinging the bats — Junior Brody Crozier is leading with a .571 average and 6 RBI plus Junior Walker Bissell is batting .526 with 1 HR and 10 RBI
With the glove, the Timberwolves are averaging about 3 errors per game so that has to improve. The pitching staff has a team ERA of 6.83 which has to go down — there have been 36 walks and 27 strikeouts. Senior Gavin Wetzel is the ace but has 14 walks and 7 strikeouts and a ERA of 6.46. Longabaugh says his numbers are skewed because of one bad outing in relief
The Pride of Iowa is full of talented teams — Martensdale St. Mary’s, Lenox and Mount Ayr are all undefeated in conference play so far this season. Southwest Valley have to face Mount Ayr on Thursday and Longabaugh wants his team to compete with the top teams
Fremont Mills will host the Timberwolves tonight — the Knights are 3-3.
