Former DMPS Superintendent Ian Roberts Transferred to an Illinois Prison
(Des Moines, IA) — Former Des Moines Public Schools Superintendent Ian Roberts is being transferred to a minimum-security federal prison. The U.S. Marshals Service says Roberts will be moved to the Federal Correctional Institution in Thomson, Illinois, about an hour north of Moline. Roberts was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to making a false statement to obtain employment and being an illegal immigrant in possession of a firearm. He will receive credit for time served.
Iowa Executive Branch Data Moving To Amazon Web Services Cloud, 200 IT Employees Affected
(Des Moines, IA) — Iowa’s executive branch data will be moving from physical servers to Amazon Web Services. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds says the change will upgrade the state’s data storage from an outdated IT system to a secure cloud managed by Cognizant Government Solutions. State officials say it’s expected to save the state more than 525 million dollars over the next decade. About 200 state employees with the Division of Information Technology will be laid off, but will receive job offers from Cognizant later this month.
Iowa State Senator Julian Garrett Dies At 85
(Des Moines, IA) — Iowa State Senator Julian Garrett has died. The Republican represented District 11 in the State Senate, which includes Warren and parts of Marion counties. Garrett was elected to the Iowa House for two terms before becoming a State Senator after a 2013 special election. He was in his third Senate term when he died at the age of 85.
Ankeny Lawyer Appointed District Judge In Judicial District 5A
(Des Moines, IA) — An Ankeny lawyer will be Iowa’s next district court judge. Governor Kim Reynolds appointed David Ranscht [[ RANCH ]] as a district judge in Judicial District 5A on Tuesday. The district covers Dallas, Guthrie, Jasper, Madison, Marion, and Warren counties in Central Iowa. Currently Ranscht is General Counsel for the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission, and previously served as Assistant Attorney General in the Iowa Attorney General’s Office. Ranscht is replacing the Honorable Brad McCall.
Iowa Woman Gets Life In Prison For Death Of Her Infant
(Ames, IA) — A Story County woman convicted in the death of her infant daughter will spend life in prison without the possibility of parole. The Story County Attorney’s Office says Sheyenne Shore of Nevada was sentenced in connection with the 2023 death of her seven-month-old baby. The baby suffered multiple bruises, bone fractures, and hemorrhages of her eye and liver. The girl’s father, Juan Montalvo Jr., was sentenced to 10 years in prison on a charge of child endangerment resulting in death.
