(Greenfield, IA) — Griswold-CAM won a back and forth tug of war non conference softball game at Nodaway Valley on Wednesday night, 9-8.
The Wolverines built an early lead as Emma Boswell hit a 2 run HR in the 1st inning and Izzy Eisbach delivered a RBI single in the 2nd to make it 3-0.
Griswold CAM sent six hitters to the plate in the first two innings against Wolverine starter Ellie Zenor but the 8th grader lost some control in the top of the 3rd, throwing two walks and four wild pitches. Keely Kinney and Courtney Follmann each had two run doubles and the Tigers sent 9 batters to the plate and scored 6 runs to take a 6-3 lead.
Nodaway Valley cut the lead in the bottom of the 4th when Addison Glade got a leadoff double and scored on an error. Mattison Thompson singled and scored on a RBI double from Boswell to make it 6-5.
The Tigers got one back in the 5th — Carsyn Adams got a leadoff single, stole 2nd, stole 3rd and came home when Amanda Houser walked and then rounded first base, heading towards 2nd. The Wolverines threw one there and got her but Adams came home to make it 7-5. They got two more runs in the top of the 6th to make it 9-5.
In the bottom of the 6th, Nodaway Valley loaded the bases and with two outs Ella Boswell hit a high fly ball to right center — Carsyn Adams ranged over from center but the ball fell out of her mitt and three runs came around to score. It was 9-8.
Griswold CAM starter Ailey Wahlert, however, took it from there and retired the Wolverines in order in the bottom of the 7th to end the game and the Tigers remained unbeaten.
