(Des Moines) The National Weather Service in Des Moines says there is an Enhanced Risk, rated three out of five, for severe weather today, this risk extends into Thursday.
As we look ahead to this afternoon and evening, a significant round of storms is expected, with the highest risk areas centered in eastern and southern Iowa. People should prepare for scattered showers and the potential for thunderstorms to begin this morning as well. Expect another wave of severe storms overnight into Thursday morning. The timing and location of these storms may impact the forecast for the afternoon and evening hours on Thursday.

The highest tornado threat today is in eastern Iowa, into Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

The damaging wind threat is highest in the afternoon/evening, with 75-mile-per-hour winds possible in eastern Iowa.
