(Avoca, IA) – AHSTW is back and better than ever as the Vikings have won back-to-back games against IKM-Manning and Audubon. Head coach GG Harris was not happy with how the Vikings started off their season but is happy with how his athletes have responded to their first loss and have continued to battle in every game ever since.
Three players that have had major impacts through the first four games are Luke Sternberg, Nick Denning, and Colin Harder as they have all emerged as big leaders on the floor. Luke leads the team in three categories including points per game with 13, rebounds per game with 6.8, and assists with three. Nick has been the heavy-hitter on the defensive end as he leads the team in steals with 2.8 while also putting down 10.8 points per game. Last but not least, sophomore Collin Harder has averaged 10 points per game while shooting 38.6% from the field. This Vikings team has a lot of talent and they’re showing it just four games into the season.
AHSTW has been averaging around 47 points per game while shooting just 39% from the field. The Vikings have not been doing well at the charity stripe so far this season as they have shot just 45% and have not had many opportunities to take shots from the free-throw line as Luke Sternberg leads the team in attempts with 17. One thing to look at is that AHSTW is not going to the basket enough when you look at that stat, because if they were to go to the basket more often, then they surely would be at the line more than 38 attempts.
AHSTW is looking to be more patient on the floor while also keeping up the quick offensive tempo. Defensively, if the rebound game improves and they are able to force a few turnovers in their favor, that is where the Vikings will succeed.
Tonight, AHSTW will be taking on the ACGC Chargers in a non-conference matchup. This is the first time that ACGC will be taking on AHSTW according to GoBound. The Chargers are coming into the game 3-1 overall on the season with leading scorer Lance Bunde as he averages 15.5 points per game and averages 3.2 steals per game. The Chargers are coming off a win over Ogden 71-51 and their only loss of the season that went to Van Meter 65-63. This is a Chargers team that also averages 73 points per game and shoots 47% from the field, which will be a tough test for the Vikings.
AHSTW takes on ACGC tonight at AHSTW High School with the start time after the girls’ game which is around 7:30 p.m. KSOM 96.5 will be live with Zach Collins and Austin West on the call. You can also catch the video live-stream on Western Iowa Today TV with the pregame show starting around 7:40 p.m.
