(Anita, IA)- The state qualifying meets are tonight for track athletes around the state and for the CAM girls’ team, it’s no different. The Cougars head to Fremont-Mills on an hour and a half bus ride to prepare for the biggest meet of the season. Coach Luke Symonds has been proud of the season his team has put together this year even if for some it comes to an end tonight. Whether it was meet cancellations, tough opponents, or tough weather Symonds say his girls always came determined and ready to go plus have continued to break personal records all season long.
One difficulty the Cougars have faced this week is that it has been a full week since their last competition. While it may not seem like it, but having their meet from Monday cancelled can be detrimental as you don’t get to practice timing, throws, handoffs, and other technical aspects of track and field in a meet environment. Coach Symonds says his girls have taken it into their own hands to make sure practices are as close to meet scenarios as possible leading up to tonight.
As the team has continued to hit new personal records throughout the season, they have only gotten better and better leading up to what possibly could be the final meet of the year. Symonds has high hopes for many of his athletes but knows if you want to make it to state you’ve got to compete at your best and maybe set one more PR.
The state qualifying meet for CAM begins at 4:00pm at Fremont-Mills High School.
