Janice Arlene Conn was born on January 30, 1931, in Atlantic, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Josephine (Paulsen) Smith Jan entered into eternal peace on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the blessed age of 95 years. A private family service will take place at a later date. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family.
Her earliest years were spent in Neola before the family moved to Atlantic. It was here that she attended school and graduated from Atlantic High School with the Class of 1949. Following graduation she worked as a telephone operator. On April 22, 1951 she was united in marriage to Henry J. (Hank) Mueller. The couple moved to Cape Charles, Virginia while he was stationed in the Air Force. Upon his discharge the couple moved to a farm 4.5 miles east of Griswold on Hwy 92. This union was blessed with the birth of 5 children, Becky, Sue, Scott, Melanie and Dan. Hank passed away in 1982. Jan later found happiness with Clarence (Bill) Conn and the couple were married on November 26, 1983, in Lewis, Iowa.
Jan was a loving and dedicated stay at home mom. She loved caring for her family and helping her husband on the farm. She enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren’s activities and sporting events, gardening, caring for her yard, sewing, golfing, and traveling. She kept an immaculate home, which she prided herself on. She was also the woman behind the camera taking pictures and putting together albums for all. She was also a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Lyman.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Hank Mueller; her parents Ray and Josie Smith; second husband Bill Conn in 1991; sister Barbara (Harold) Cohrs; son Scott Mueller; infant grandson Mitchell Mueller; and infant great-grandson Max Sunderman.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children; Rebecca (Frank) Sunderman of Papillion, NE, Susan (Darrel) Smith of Ridgedale, MO, Melanie (Brent) Thompson of Papillion, NE and Daniel Mueller of Griswold, IA; daughter-in-law Marcia Mueller of Council Bluffs, IA; 15 grandchildren; 5 bonus grandchildren by marriage.; 26 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
