(Des Moines) Des Moines International Airport (DSM) will introduce a new gate numbering system beginning Wednesday, May 13, as the airport prepares for the opening of its new terminal early next year, according to weareiowa.com
The overnight transition on Tuesday, May 12, will replace the current letter-and-number gate format used in concourses A and C with a streamlined numbering system designed to align with the future terminal layout.
Airport officials said the update is intended to give travelers an early look at the design style and wayfinding system planned for the new terminal.
“By implementing the new numbering system now, passengers and airline partners will become familiar with the updated format well ahead of the terminal opening,” said Clinton Torp, DSM’s chief operations officer.
The project includes new gate signage throughout the concourses as well as updated airport wayfinding signs. Exterior gate identification changes are already underway to assist airlines and pilots, and airline carriers are coordinating updates, so the new gate numbers appear correctly on boarding passes and flight information systems.
The new terminal at DSM is scheduled to open in January 2027, adding to the already operating A and C concourses. It will add six gates to the current 13, with three more to be added by 2030.
