(Carroll) Four players scored double figures to lead Kuemper to a 75-42 win over Atlantic in a boys’ Hawkeye Ten Conference matchup on Friday night.
Michael Kasperbauer led the team with 14 points, Carter Putney scored 13, Carson Kanne scored 12, and Brock Badding scored 11.
Colton Rasmussen reached a milestone in the loss. The senior scored 26 points, launching him over the 1,000-point career mark. Rasmussen has 288 points through the first 11 games this season and leads all of Class 3A. Nolan Waters knocked down two three-point shots and finished the night with 13. Gavin McLaren, 9, Roth Den Beste, and Brock Henderson scored 2.
Nolan Waters fired in a three-point shot to give the Trojans the early lead; the Rams knocked down a two-point goal moments later to grab a 6-5 advantage and never trailed after that. Brock Badding, Jack Badding, and Carter Putney hit three-point shots to lead the offense and a 25-16 lead after one-quarter of action. Atlantic sophomore Gavin McLaren was a force inside with nine points from close range but still trailed 25-16 at the end of the first quarter and a 42-25 lead at the break.
The Trojans rallied in the third quarter, outscoring the Knights 19-16. Colton Rasmussen found the target from long-range five times and 17 points and trimmed the score to 47-39. Kuemper responded with 11 points to finish the frame with a 58-44 lead.
Kuemper broke loose in the final eight minutes and finished the game with a 74-52 win.
Kuemper goes to 4-0 in the Conference and 9-1 overall. Atlantic falls to 3-8.
