(Iowa City, IA) – Iowa baseball has seen multiple honors this season and they now have even more on the side of the pitchers. Brody Brecht and Cade Obermueller have been named to the College Baseball Foundation Pitcher of the Year Watch List for the 2024 season.
Looking at Brody Brecht, he currently has a 4.12 ERA and has 84 strikeouts in 48 innings pitched. Currently, the Ankeny native leads the Big Ten in strikeouts and sits eighth in the nation with a 1-2 record. Cade Obermueller sits with a 3.75 ERA with 56 strikeouts this season. The Iowa City native has a 3-2 record and is 15th in the nation with 5.63 hits per nine innings with a .182 opponent batting average.
Both Obermueller and Brecht are on the watchlist for an award that is the equivalent of the Cy Young Award in college baseball. This award goes to the nation’s top collegiate pitcher that started in 2009 which lists the 54 best pitchers in Division I baseball.
Iowa returns to action with a doubleheader on Sunday after Saturday’s postponement that will start at 11:00 a.m. and the second game will fall after around 1:00 p.m.
