(Atlantic) While fundraising continues for the 300-capacity childcare development center and the YMCA expansion project in Atlantic, questions are being raised about how the construction will affect the day-to-day operations of the current Nishna Valley Family YMCA.
Vision Atlantic Fundraising Committee Co-Chair Deb Schuler assures people that the intention is to keep the YMCA open throughout. Schuler admits there might be a few pardons our project signs. She says the project includes many new features.
Additionally, the project includes an outdoor garden structure or Pergola, fire pits, outdoor games, a basketball court, a pickleball court, indoor fitness enhancements, lengthening the current walking track, and a designated space for cardio rehab.
Diana Williams, Director of the Childcare Center, says fundraising continues for the YMCA and Childcare development projects.
With collaborative efforts with community stakeholders, generous donors, and foundational support, they plan to channel an estimated $89 million into these vital projects. This includes $48 million for new housing, $11.5 million for a state-of-the-art childcare center, and $16 million for expanding the current YMCA facility. The Charles E. Lakin Foundation has committed $8.6 million to support the childcare center and YMCA expansion significantly. An additional transformative pledge of $23 million from the Foundation was the catalyst, igniting a rapid surge in new housing development in the community.
