(Exira/EHK) — Due to a lack of numbers, the Exira/EHK junior varsity football schedule has been canceled.
Last March, Exira/EHK announced it would not field a varsity football team for the 2026 season. The district said the decision followed discussions with parents and football players and was based on low participation and student-athlete safety.
The district had planned to play a junior varsity schedule for the 2026 season, allowing the school to continue having its own football program.
Athletic Director Tom Petersen said during a July 7 community-wide meeting that he would evaluate the J-V schedule this month.
On Friday, the district announced on social media that the J-V football schedule has been canceled.
Meanwhile, Exira/EHK and Audubon will share all sports this school year except volleyball and football.
