(Glenwood, IA) – On a day when the girls experienced all four seasons of the year, the Atlantic Trojans were able to display an excellent showing at the Hawkeye-Ten Championship golf meet with a first-place finish for the third straight season. The Trojans shot under 400 at 388 while following up right behind Atlantic was Red Oak with 395.
Belle Berg was the leader on the day for the Trojans with a 91 which helped her earn fifth overall at the championship meet. She was one of the top golfers on the day and was able to traverse through the weather conditions and was able to improve throughout the day by adjusting to the nine-hole course which helped her on the last nine holes.
While she had a dominant performance, Berg was proud of her teammates for not only pushing her but also pushing themselves to earn another Hawkeye-Ten Championship.
Emma Rose was able to come in the 10th spot in the meet for the Atlantic Trojans with a stroke count of 96 at the end of the day. Rose didn’t go into the meet expecting to do very well overall but was so happy to see a great amount of improvement for her to be able to earn a top-ten finish for the first time in the Hawkeye-Ten championship in her high school career.
Coming just right above Emma in the final standings was McKenna Schroeder who earned eighth with a 95 on the day. She faired very well on the first nine holes with a 46, just right around her goal, and earned a 49 on the final nine holes at Glenwood. Schroeder was more than ready to play well on the day after visiting the driving range on Sunday to be ready for conference action.
Schroeder and her teammates work so well together as they’re led by Head Coach Kathy Hobson who has helped develop leaders Belle Berg and Abby Muller to lead this team to three-straight conference championships.
On the first nine holes, it was colder for these girls to be able to focus, but on the final nine holes, the wind started to wiggle its way back into action and the Trojans were able to adjust to the conditions just as they had all season. Head Coach Kathy Hobson was happy to see how her girls adjusted on the final nine holes and how they battled through the conditions all day.
Coach Hobson continues to lead the Trojans to Hawkeye-Ten Championships and has helped build one of the most successful programs in the Hawkeye-Ten which is a high honor in a conference that features some of the best golfers in the state of Iowa. She credits these girls for their hard work and focus on the course and practice to be able to earn another championship.
Atlantic and the other Hawkeye-Ten teams will now prepare over the course of this week and early next week for regional golf action as Atlantic will be at Nishna Hills on Wednesday, May 15th, and will have one regular-season dual against Harlan on Monday at 4:30 p.m. at the Harlan Country Club.
