(Massena) Iowa Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Biologist John Lorenzen provided an update on the Cass County Education Pond near Massena.
In early 2024, the pond was drained and dredged as part of a project funded by a state fish habitat grant. Since then, the pond has refilled and has been stocked with pre-spawn bass, bluegill, and two-inch channel catfish.
Lorenzen said recent catfish samples showed the fish have grown to about 10 inches in length. He added that plans are in place to stock additional adult bass.
The Cass County Education Area is open to the public.
