(Red Oak) The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors took no action on providing electronic coverage of its weekly meeting on Tuesday Morning.
The issue came up last week when supervisor Bryant Amos voiced his concern about continuing the Zoom meetings, citing an incident during the Red Oak City Council meeting in which someone posted inappropriate cartoon body parts.
Red Oak City Administrator Lisa Kotter says, “Obviously, it is a county decision.” Though it happened during a Red Oak City Council meeting, she believes it is important to be transparent and encouraged the supervisors to continue holding Zoom meetings open to the public.
Former Montgomery County Supervisor Donna Robinson urged the supervisors not to abandon the Zoom meetings. Robinson says Zoom continues to provide transparency and accessibility to the general public and media coverage.
IT Director Beau Boeye explained to the supervisors that there are tools they can use to prevent outside participants from renaming themselves, starting their videos, or unmuting their voices.
Supervisor Bryant Amos says his point is not to get rid of Zoom immediately. Amos says he wants to make sure steps are taken to protect the Zoom broadcast.
The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors took no action on the agenda item.
