James Ralph Marsh, rural Elliott, passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2024, at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 9 days.
James was born in Red Oak on June 4, 1951, the son of Milburn “Mel” and V. Marie (Mullen) Marsh. He attended school in the Griswold area and graduated with the Class of 1970. He joined the National Guard in November of 1970, and served his country during the Vietnam War. He was Honorably Discharged in 1979.
James worked as a farmer, a factory worker, and a jailer at the Montgomery County Sheriffs’ Office and had been a Reserve Deputy Sheriff. He was a member of the American Legion Post #67 in Red Oak and a member of the United Church of Hope in Elliott. An avid patriot, he was a member of the American Legion, the NRA, and firm supporter of the Second Amendment. He loved woodworking and spent many hours in his garage crafting furniture and other items.
James is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jon Marsh.
He is survived by his wife, Norma; his daughters, Amy (Jared) Muse of Glenwood, IA and Ann (Matthew) Ross of Red Oak; his four grandchildren: Alexander Ross of Texas, SGT Zachary Ross stationed in Maryland, Xavier Ross of Red Oak, and Brie Ross of Red Oak.
A funeral service for James will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, 10:00 AM, at the United Church of Hope in Elliott, IA. Visitation with the family will take place one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery, south of Lyman. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family with arrangements.
