(Greenfield, IA) – It’s a weekend full of wrestling and head coach Brad Honnold is ready for his Wolverines to get back out on the mats today. The Nodaway Valley wrestling team is having a historic year in terms of numbers as they have over 24 athletes wrestling this season. To have that many kids is a good thing to see for a program that is growing to be one of the top programs in the area.
The Wolverines are focused on the key components of what will make them successful in February. The duals, practices, and tournaments only help the wrestlers get better and knock down their techniques. Nodaway Valley is on that path of learning and is only getting better at learning what makes them successful early.
Two wrestlers have impressed the region including both Caleb Christensen and Kasen Hansen. Christensen finished the first week of his high school wrestling career 5-2 while helping the team get a 2-0 decision this week over ACGC. Hansen has been one wrestler who has shown drastic improvement from his freshman season to his now junior year. His time in the offseason has helped him to surpass his win total already this season from the first two years in his career.
Today, Nodaway Valley will be in the Lenox Invitational taking on other area teams including Coon Rapids-Bayard, Southwest Valley, and Lenox. This will be a good test for the Wolverines so early in the season as it only helps them get better over the course of December.
Nodaway Valley will take on multiple teams today in the Lenox Invitational which starts at 10:00 a.m. at Lenox High School.
