(Griswold, IA) — Griswold baseball has seen an increase in their win total the last three seasons — from 3 in 2023, 6 in 2024 and 8 last year Head Coach Ryan Lockwood is hoping that trend continues. The Tigers lost three seniors from last year’s squad and Coach Lockwood thinks he has depth in the pitching staff to withstand a few key players who graduated. His son Brayden Lockwood (5.92 ERA, 28 strikeouts) should replace the departed Bode Wyman at the top of the rotation. Coach Lockwood likes two other arms to be there as well
Lockwood also likes Junior Cavyn Turner and Sophomores Brayden Beck and Colton Frieze.
The offense lost Zane Johnson and Wyman but OF Turner leads the way with a .300 average from last year. The team batting average was only .246 so Lockwood is looking for more consistency at the plate
Nollan Smith will be the catcher; Lockwood will primarily play shortstop when not pitching; Lockwood says his guys can play a lot of different positions which gives him flexibility
Griswold is scheduled to open today, hosting Atlantic; they play Audubon on Tuesday.
