(Atlantic) – Mason Betts has been named this week’s KS95.7 Armor Insurance Athlete of the Week for his outstanding effort and state-qualifying performance at the State Qualifying Meet on Thursday at Glenwood.
Betts anchored Atlantic’s 4×800 Meter Relay team to a third-place finish and earned a third-place finish in the 1600 meters with a career-best time of 4:39.04, coming just shy of the school record. Less than 15 minutes later, the sophomore helped lead the 4×400 Meter Relay team—alongside Ethan McNeal, Skyler Burcham, and Landon Hagen—to a second-place finish and a state-qualifying time of 3:27.82, the team’s season best.
Atlantic Head Coach Abby Becker praised Betts for running a smart race in the 1600 meters.
Also turning in an impressive performance was Landon Hagen, who was part of the 4×400 Meter Relay and also qualified for the state meet in the 400 meters, improving his personal best from 53.19 to 51.16 seconds at Glenwood.
The State Track Meet will begin Thursday, May 21, in Des Moines.
