(Oakland, IA) – The Riverside Bulldogs continue the streak of coming up short late in games this season as they lost 38-37 while giving up 20 points in the fourth quarter. Head Coach Darrell Frain has continued to see his athletes respond very well even to these losses, as they have a tough test Friday against ACGC.
The level of talent on this team cannot be underplayed as they may not show it on the stat sheet, but they play hard and stay focused in every game. Jaxon Gordon rushed for 106 yards on 23 carries while Grady Jeppesen rushed for 135 yards on seven carries. They wouldn’t have done it without the blocking up front from Gaven Hackett, Caden Forristall, and Wyatt Bell as they have been effective on the offensive line.
In the last two games, Riverside has lost by six points or less and has given up 14 points or more in the second half. In their last game against IKM-Manning, the Bulldogs led by 12 and gave up 20 points in the fourth quarter alone. Riverside just needs to finish the entire way through the game.
Riverside will be taking on Class A ranked #10 ACGC as the Chargers are a ground-and-pound team that relies on keeping the ball in the hands of a running back. This will be a big challenge for the Bulldogs as they are looking to keep them behind the chains and stop the run.
The forecast for Friday calls for a chance of scattered thunderstorms and a slight chance of rain, which may change the game plan for the Bulldogs. They rely on both the running and passing games, something that may change slightly on Friday.
ACGC hosts Riverside for the Chargers homecoming night at 7:00 p.m. KSOM 96.5 will be LIVE with Zach Collins and Austin West on the call, with a pregame show starting at 6:30 p.m. You can also catch the game on our website at Western Iowa Today with video and audio streaming online.
