(Lincoln, NE) – Nebraska softball player Sydney Gray has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week for the third time this season. This marks the final Big Ten Honor of the season for softball and Gray has now tied the former record for the most player-of-the-week awards in Big Ten history.
The Arizona native is just the eighth player in conference history to be named to Big Ten Player of the Week honors in a single season. She was a key in the Huskers’ 2-1 series victory over Minnesota last weekend while going 6-11 at the plate with two homers and seven RBIs. Gray was able to earn at least two hits and one RBI in every game in the three-game series. With that performance, she now holds a total of four Big Ten Player of the Week honors, the 10th most in conference history.
Nebraska was able to capture five of the 13 Big Ten Player of the Week honors with Gray leading the way. Billie Andrews was the other Husker to earn the honor within two weeks of being named to the award.
The Huskers will resume action on Thursday, May 9th in Iowa City as they’ll take on the winner between Minnesota and Illinois in the Big Ten Tournament at 1:30 p.m.
