(Des Moines) Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds says Iowa continues its’ downward trend of COVID-19 cases, positivity rates, and hospitalizations.
Tuesday morning, speaking at her weekly press conference, Reynolds reported over the past 14-days the statewide average positivity rate was 12.6%, and 32 counties had positivity rates of 15% or higher, and 9.5% over the past seven days and 11 counties had positivity rates at or above 15% and 88 counties are below the average positivity rate of 15%. During this same time frame, Iowa ranked 35th nationally in the number of new COVID-19 cases and 39th in its’ average case rate per 100,000 population.
“Hospitalizations continues to trend down and to approach pre-November levels,” stated Reynolds. “And 81-percent of all Iowans who’ve had the virus have recovered.”
Reynolds, there is also a decrease in the number of positive cases in the state’s long-term care facilities. “The data also shows a decrease in COVID-19 cases among long-term care residents, and staff cases have stabilized over the past four weeks,” said Reynolds.
Reynolds also reported that more than 8,400 healthcare workers had been vaccinated in Iowa as of Monday, and all doses scheduled from last week’s shipment arrived on time.
