(Atlantic) Students in the Atlantic Community School District got an opportunity to listen to guest speaker Carson King. King appeared at both the middle school and high school on Monday.
King rose to fame following his beer money sign being displayed on College GameDay. As donations poured in, King became an icon in the state upon turning his attention towards charity. King announced he’d give all donations to the University of Iowa’s Stead Children’s Hospital.
“It’s been insane to go from being a regular guy working my normal full-time job to going around and travelling, speaking to schools, and getting to work with all these great organizations to do fundraisers. It’s been a whirlwind, that’s for sure.”
Following his well publicized endeavor this fall, King has continued working with various organizations to raise money for a good cause.
“Right now I’m going to work with MS Moments which is fundraiser for multiple sclerosis. We’re going to do a chili cook-off on Saturday. I’ll be working with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Make-a-Wish, and Ronald McDonald houses, just all kinds of cool things.”
King has been impressed by the warm reception he’s received from students around the state.
“They love it. It’s been really so much fun. They really soak it in and actually pay attention and listen. It really sits well with them about the message, because they can relate to me. It’s been fun going around and sharing my story and helping other people out and teaching them some lessons that I learned.”
King’s message to students on Monday in Atlantic involved small acts of kindness, how one person can make a difference, and the power of social media both good and bad.
