(Pottawattamie Co.) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors received an update on recovery efforts in Minden, more than two years after an EF-3 tornado devastated the community.
Bethany Wilcoxon with McClure Engineering focused on two key projects in today’s report. The first was the Community Recreation Hub.
Wilcoxon noted that the Community Club will have storm-hardened restrooms to provide a safe space for community members. She said they hope to begin construction on the facility sometime next year.
Wilcoxon then shared the master plan for a play area.
Wilcoxon said they have secured about $5.7 million in grant funding so far, along with approximately $2.3 million in local matches for the various grant opportunities.
Wilcoxon and Zimmerman asked the Supervisors for $17,500 in funding to support McClure’s continued work on the projects, including the community recreation hub and play area. The Supervisors did not take action on the request at today’s meeting.
It was also noted that most of the homes in town that were devastated by the tornado have been rebuilt, and ground has been broken on the new townhomes.
Mayor Kevin Zimmerman also spoke about a large USDA grant the city received for its water plant. He said the city plans to go out for bids next month.
