(Red Oak) Last June, Montgomery County Auditor Jill Ozuna approached the County Board of Supervisors about the need for additional support in the Auditor’s Office.
Ozuna stated that the position would provide support in several areas, including payroll, human resources, employee onboarding, financial and accounting functions, budget forecasting, data entry, website updates, communications, board correspondence, and other administrative duties. After lengthy discussions, the supervisor approved hiring an individual to fill the position.
Last week, Alex Burton, County Auditor Jill Ozuna, and Schmid interviewed two candidates for the position. Schmid stated they were both excellent candidates. Schmid said the chosen candidate has a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Northwest Missouri State University, and an Associate of Arts and Administration Degree from Iowa Western Community College.
Supervisor Chairperson Charla Schmid made it clear during the meeting that this is for a one-year trial period.
Schmid says the candidate also has all of the computer skills needed for the position.
Supervisor Alex Burton admitted that, originally, he was not in favor of filling this position moving forward and stated that the board is well past that.
The supervisors then voted to hire the individual at a wage of $30.00 per hour, for up to 30 hours per week. Mark Peterson cast the lone no vote.
In other business, the supervisors approved a three-year lease agreement for the County Farm at 326.00 per acre. The board received one other bid for $316.00 per acre.
The board also approved the abatement of $146.00 in taxes for a City-owned parcel at 104 B Street in Red Oak.
The supervisor’s appointment of Krista Huntsman as West Township Clerk for the term ending December 31, 2026.
