(Area) Flood warnings remain in effect this morning for parts of southwest Iowa following several inches of rain.
The National Weather Service says a Flood Warning for Adair County remains in effect until 3:30 this afternoon. Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is continuing, with flooding occurring in rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying areas.
Numerous roads remain closed in the warned area. Between two and four inches of rain have fallen, with another inch or more possible through this morning.
The Middle River is among the impacted streams. Communities included in the warning are Greenfield, Stuart, Adair, Fontanelle, Orient and Bridgewater. The warning also includes Interstate 80 between mile markers 73 and 96.
A separate Flood Warning continues for the East Nishnabotna River at Red Oak in Montgomery County. The river was at 20.2 feet early Wednesday morning, above the 18-foot flood stage. Minor flooding is occurring and is expected to continue into this afternoon.
The National Weather Service says the river should fall below flood stage late this afternoon and continue falling.
Tuesday afternoon, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office reported flooding from Olive Street to Great River Road. The roadway was clear for travel. Below is a photo of the Atlantic Little League Complex. A flood watch remains in effect for the rest of southwest Iowa until 1:00 p.m. today.
