(Des Moines) The National Weather Service says showers and thunderstorms moving across northern Iowa early this morning will become more spotty through the morning hours.
By late this afternoon, showers and storms are expected to become more widespread and spread southeastward into central Iowa and eventually southern Iowa tonight.
Locally heavy rainfall is expected, with the potential for isolated flash flooding. The National Weather Service says dry soils and mature crops should help lessen the flash flood risk in rural areas.
However, high rainfall rates could still create water issues in urban areas, particularly where drainage is overwhelmed.
