(St. Louis) Today marks an exciting occasion for two local high school teams as they get the chance to play in a major league stadium. Atlantic and Clarinda will take the field at Busch Stadium.
Back in December, Atlantic Activities Director Andy Mitchell shared that the St. Louis Cardinals had sent a survey to athletics directors from Iowa, Missouri, and Illinois to gauge interest in hosting a high school game at their venue. The Cardinals ultimately chose the Atlantic matchup over Clarinda.
Recently, the Trojans faced off against St. Albert, splitting a doubleheader and winning 3-1 against Red Oak on Thursday night. Head Coach Nathan Block highlighted the impressive performances by pitchers Kale Jensen and Hudson McLaren in both games.
Now, both teams are preparing for their journey to St. Louis for this Hawkeye Ten Conference clash. While Coach Block acknowledges the significance of this event for the players, he emphasizes that they are approaching it with a serious mindset.
He noted that this experience will present a completely different environment for the athletes.
The game is scheduled to begin approximately 1.5 hours after the St. Louis Cardinals face the Miami Marlins, around 5:30 p.m.
