(Atlantic) The Atlantic softball team capped off an undefeated run through the Hawkeye Ten Conference on Thursday, sweeping a doubleheader against Red Oak to complete a perfect 20-0 Conference season.
Head coach Terry Hinzmann reflected on the goals the team established back in February,
He said they emphasized the importance of focusing on the future rather than dwelling on what might have been. “One thing you do not want to do is look back and wonder what could have been, or if we would have done this differently, or that differently. Or if I had put a little more time here, or time there, or something like that.”
With a season marked by consistency and few surprises, Hinzmann noted that most of the team’s success came as expected. Still, he pointed to strong contributions from several upper-level students, along with standout performances from a pair of younger players- 8th graders London Kirchhoff and Kinsley Johnson, who stepped up and played well throughout the year.
The Trojans finish off the balance of the season playing tough competition to the likes of Dowling, Catholic, Bishop-Heelan, Treynor, and Sioux City, East, before facing Cherokee on July 9 at home in the first round of regional play.
