(Des Moines) A Heat Advisory has been issued for all of southwest Iowa from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday as dangerous heat and humidity move into the region.
According to the National Weather Service, heat index values could reach as high as 105 degrees during the afternoon and evening hours. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity may increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for those spending extended periods outdoors.
Residents are encouraged to take precautions by drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned buildings when possible, avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun, and checking on relatives, neighbors, and others who may be vulnerable to the extreme heat.
The National Weather Service advises anyone working or spending time outdoors to take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned locations and remain alert for signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
