(Des Moines) Democratic nominee for governor Rob Sand announced Crawford County Supervisor Dave Muhlbauer as his candidate for lieutenant governor.
Rob Sand said Dave Muhlbauer, a fifth-generation Crawford County farmer and cattleman, has a strong record of working across party lines and delivering for western Iowa. Sand said Muhlbauer’s work ethic and commitment to public service make him a strong choice for lieutenant governor.
Muhlbauer said the campaign is focused on service rather than politics, adding that his values were shaped by his family’s tradition of serving the community.
Born and raised in Manilla, Muhlbauer attended the IKM Community School District. After graduation, he briefly attended Wartburg College before returning home to continue the family tradition of working on the farm, which he’s done ever since.
In addition to being a farmer and cattleman, Muhlbauer is also serving his second term on the Crawford County Board of Supervisors. Dave’s family has a long history of public service, as both his father, Dan, and grandfather, Louis, served as Supervisors and in the Iowa Legislature.
Outside of farming and his time as a county supervisor, Dave enjoys spending time with his family, riding horses, and playing cards with the guys on the farm. He and his wife of 18 years, Linda, have three children and a dog, Rambo.
