(Atlantic) Four Atlantic High School students will be competing in the National Speech and Debate (NSDA) National Tournament in Richmond, Virginia next week. The team will be led by head coach Trisha Koenig. According to Koenig, this is Atlantic’s ninth time going to the national tournament in the past 12 years.
The four qualifiers are freshman John McCurdy, Sophomore David Blake, Junior Bailey Grieshaber, and Senior Margaret McCurdy. John McCurdy will be competing in congressional debate. Blake and Margaret McCurdy will compete in Program Oral Interpretation. Grieshaber was nominated by her coach to compete in World Schools debate, placing her on a team with students from Waukee Northwest, Dowling Catholic, Johnston and Roosevelt high schools.
This year will be Margaret McCurdy’s fourth time participating in the national tournament. Koenig said that she is “Incredibly proud to have a four year qualifier,” and that “Margaret has provided good guidance to others on the team.”
