(Avoca, IA) — AHSTW Baseball had a rough season a year ago with only four wins but Head Coach Trey Brix is optimistic about the future. The Vikings do have to replace long time ace Aiden Akers and that will fall on Sophomore Camdyn Dresen who was 0-3 last year but had a 1.73 ERA in 8 games and 4 starts — Brix says he just needs to get more consistent
Behind Dresen, Kip Lamp showed some promise last year as an 8th grader with 10 games pitched all in relief with a 2.49 ERA. Seniors Cal Parker, Ty Nelson and Cash Freeman have experience and will throw more innings and Junior Sage Blotzer will be in the mix as well.
AHSTW must improve their hitting — the team batting average last year was only .215 and there were only 10 extra base hits total. Brix says it starts between the ears
Dresen hit .259; Blotzer hit .282 and they will be in the middle of the line up; Cash Freeman is a good hitter who seemed to hit it hard but right at defenders last year; Chase Wheatley missed some time last year and could never get on track so Brix says there is potential. He also is excited about a big 8th grade class that will push the veterans
AHSTW will open their baseball season on Monday, May 18 hosting Boyer Valley.
