(Atlantic) The Atlantic School Board held its second public hearing on the FY27 budget Wednesday evening. There were no written or oral comments during the hearing.
Later in the meeting, the board approved the FY27 property tax rates. Board Secretary/Treasurer Lisa Jones explained the details.
In other action, the board tabled action on a shared 28E agreement with several area school districts for Special Education Administrative Associates. Superintendent Dr. Beth Johnsen explained that this position was originally handled through the AEA, which no longer provides the service, requiring districts to contract it.
Board members mentioned that they thought these duties were intended to be part of the Director of Student Services’ role.
The board ultimately tabled the item to explore whether a current staff member within the district could take on those responsibilities.
The board also approved a resolution authorizing the issuance of not to exceed $22,500,000 in General Obligation School Bonds, Series 2026, and levying a tax for their payment. These bonds were approved by voters in the November 4, 2025 election and will be used for facility upgrades at each school.
