(Griswold) The Griswold Community School District is beginning to build an on-campus agricultural facility.
Superintendent Dave Henrichs says the district has been planning the facility for quite some time. He says the project is part of the district’s strategic plan to increase integrated learning opportunities for students.
Henrichs says preliminary cost estimates, including gates, architectural work, and required fire systems, put the total project cost at approximately $370,000.
Donors have committed $50,000 in labor and materials, and a private donor will contribute $100,000 if the district matches. Henrichs says the district can comfortably contribute another $150,000 toward the project, bringing the total fundraising effort to $300,000.
The Griswold School Board approved a letter of agreement Tuesday with architect Daric O’Neal of Red Oak, allowing the district to move forward with the project.
O’Neal will prepare the specifications, and the district will put the project out to bid soon.
Henrichs says if everything goes as planned, the facility will be on campus for the 2027-2028 school year.
Currently, only 40 other facilities of this kind exist in Iowa.
