We are going into the final week of the regular season for Classes 8 Man, A, 1A, and 2A. Let’s take a look at the playoff situation for each district.
Class 8 Man
Top Three teams in each district make playoffs with two at large teams.
Records are District Record
District 1
Kingsley Pierson has clinched the district title even if they lose this week at St. Edmond. Remsen St. Mary’s has clinched the two seed — they have a non-district game versus North Iowa this week. GTRA already beat St. Edmond so the Titans have clinched the #3 seed. St. Edmond currently has a solid +/- of 2.40 but they play K-P this week so the Gaels need a big upset and they could be an at large team.
District 2
Bishop Garrigan has clinched the district title with a 5-0 record going into the final week. North Union has clinched the #2 seed. Riceville and West Bend Mallard are currently tied for 3rd but Riceville will be the #3 seed after beating West Bend Mallard. The Wolverines have a +/- of 3.40 but they play Bishop Garrigan this week so that number will go down unless they get a huge upset.
District 3
Don Bosco has clinched the district title and Turkey Valley has clinched the #2 seed. Janesville is currently at 3-2 and plays at 2-3 Dunkerton. Tripoli is also lurking at 2-3 but they play Don Bosco this week. Dunkerton needs a win because their +/- is currently minus 9. Janesville has a +/- of 3.40 but a loss would affect that. Essentially, Janesville v. Dunkerton is a playoff game.
District 4
Edgewood Colesburg has clinched the district title and Kee High has clinched the #2 seed. The third seed will be decided this week as Central City plays at Springville and both teams are currently tied at 3-2.
District 5
Iowa Valley plays at WACO for the district title — Iowa Valley wins they are the #1 seed and WACO is the #3. A WACO win and there is a three way tie for first with English Valleys who has a bye.
District 6
Gladbrook Reinbeck is 5-0, North Tama is 4-1 and Clarksville is 4-1. Those will be the three playoff teams. Gladbrook Reinbeck hosts North Tama this week and if the Redhawks win and Clarksville beats Collins Maxwell, we have a three way tie. If the Rebels win, they win the district. If Clarksville and North Tama tie for second, the Indians have the tiebreaker.
District 7
Montezuma is the district champ but there is still a battle for the other two spots. Southeast Warren is 4-1, Wayne is 3-2 and Moravia is 3-2. Southeast Warren hosts Wayne and Moravia hosts Twin Cedars. Wayne has the better +/- right now at 5.20 so if they do not get an automatic bid, they will be in the mix for an at-large spot.
District 8
Bedford and Lenox are locked in at #1 and #2 seeds respectively. Murray is 3-2 and is scheduled to play Seymour this week and the Warriors forfeited last week so Murray looks in good shape. East Union lost to Murray 22-20 so they lose the tiebreaker. The Eagles play Griswold and have a +/- of 2.50 for an at large playoff spot which will put the Eagles on the bubble.
District 9
Audubon has clinched the district title. Coon Rapids Bayard plays Glidden Ralston this week — if the Crusaders win they are the #2 seed. If the Wildcats pull off the upset, it could be a three way tie if CAM beats winless Ar-We-Va.
District 10
Woodbine is the district champ and Boyer Valley is the #2 seed. Fremont Mills plays East Mills this week and the winner will be the three seed. Neither team will be in good shape for an at large with a loss.
Class A
Top Four in each District make playoffs
District 1
West Sioux is 5-0 and Gehlen Catholic is 4-1 and they play each other this week. MMCRU is 4-1 and they play 1-4 HMS. A West Sioux win and they are the district champ. If Gehlen wins and MMCRU wins, we have a three way tie. Meanwhile, Sioux Central hosts Sibley Ocheyedan and the winner will be the #4 seed.
District 2
The four playoff qualifiers are decided, just not the seeds. West Fork is the district champ. Newman Catholic plays at 1-4 AGWSR and if they win, they will be #2. Belmond Klemme is tied for third with West Hancock and they play this week for the #3 seed.
District 3
Saint Ansgar is the district champ. Nashua Plainfield is currently second at 4-1 while Starmont and North Butler are 3-2. There could be a three way tie for 2nd place with this week’s games: Nashua Plainfield hosts 2-3 Clayton Ridge, Starmont hosts 1-4 South Winneshiek and North Butler has to play at Saint Ansgar.
District 4
Crazy district with four teams tied at 4-1 so the four teams making the playoffs is easy but the seeding still has to be decided and all four play each other this week. The four are Wapsie Valley, North Linn, East Buchanan and Maquoketa Valley. This week’s games: Maquoketa Valley @ East Buchanan and Wapsie Valley @ North Linn. It will come down to head-to-head to determine the seeds.
District 5
Pekin beat Danville last week 55-6 to sew up the district title. The Bears will be the #2 seed. Van Buren County will claim a forfeit against New London this week and will be the #3 seed. Columbus has the inside track at the #4 seed — even if Columbus loses this week at Pekin and Wapello beats Danville, Columbus wins the tiebreaker.
District 6
The four teams for the playoffs are set but the seeds are not. Madrid is the district champ and has clinched the #1 spot. Lynnville Sully is 4-1, Martensdale St. Mary’s is 4-2, and Earlham is 3-2. Lynnville Sully visits the Cardinals this week. If Lynnville wins, they are the #2 seed. If Earlham wins, there is a three way tie. MSM has a non district game against Nodaway Valley.
District 7
Riverside plays AC/GC this week, coverage on KSOM. If the Bulldogs win, they are the outright district champ. If the Chargers win, they win the district on a tiebreaker. Mount Ayr plays Southwest Valley and the winner will be the #3 seed and the loser is the #4 seed.
District 8
Woodbury Central plays St. Albert this week for the district title — the loser will be the #2 seed. The other two spots are up in the air with four teams tied at 2-3: West Monona, IKM Manning, Logan Magnolia and Akron Westfield. This week’s games: Logan Magnolia @ Akron Westfield and West Monona at IKM Manning. So the winners of those two games get into the playoffs and the head-to-head winner will be the #3 seed.
Class 1A
Top Four in each District make playoffs
District 1
West Lyon will play Lawton Bronson this week — if Lawton can pull the upset and Ridge View beats MVAOCOU there would be a three way tie. If West Lyon wins and Ridge View wins over 1-3 Maple Valley, the Wildcats would be the district champs, the Raptors would be the #2 seed and Lawton Bronson the #3 seed. Maple Valley needs a win over Ridge View and a Hinton loss against winless Alta Aurelia to get the #4 seed. If the Blackhawks win, they are #4.
District 2
There is currently a three way tie between South Central Calhoun, East Sac County, and Emmetsburg at 3-1. Manson NW Webster is at 2-2 and Pocahontas Area is 1-3. This week’s games: 0-4 South Hamilton at Manson NW Webster; Pocahontas @ South Central Calhoun; Emmetsburg @ East Sac County. Tiebreakers will come into play here.
District 3
Clarion Garner Hayfield Ventura has clinched the district title. Grundy Center is 3-1 and plays at 2-2 Eagle Grove. If Eagle Grove wins and South Hardin wins over 1-3 Central Springs, we have a three way tie for second place. If Central Springs wins over South Hardin and Eagle Grove loses to Grundy Center, there would be a three way tie for third place.
District 4
Aplington Parkersburg is the district champ and Hudson has clinched the #2 seed. Sumner Fredericksburg and Columbus Catholic are currently tied for 3rd at 2-2 and Union is 1-3. Union plays Sumner this week and Columbus has to visit A-P. If the Falcons win and the Knights win, there would be a three way tie for 3rd with one team losing out in the tiebreaker.
District 5
Northeast Goose Lake has won the district title. If Beckman Catholic beats 1-3 Lisbon, they clinch the two seed. If Beckman loses and if MFL Mar Mac loses to Northeast and Cascade beats winless Camanche, Cascade, MFL and Lisbon would be in a three way tie for 3rd.
District 6
Iowa City Regina Catholic has dominated to the district title. Eddyville has clinched the #2 seed. Sigourney Keota hosts Cardinal and the winner is the #3 seed and the loser will be the #4 seed.
District 7
West Marshall has clinched the district title and Interstate 35 has clinched the #2 seed. The winner of Pleasantville and Panorama will be the #3 seed. West Central Valley has to beat West Marshall and Ogden has to beat the Road Runners for any chance.
District 8
Treynor is the #1 seed and Underwood is the #2 seed. Tri Center plays Shenandoah and the winner is the #3 seed and the loser is the #4 seed.
Class 2A
Top Four in each District make playoffs
District 1
Central Lyon plays Unity Christian for the district title this week. Western Christian is the #2 seed if Central Lyon wins, #3 if they lose. Cherokee and Boyden Hull Rock Valley are currently tied at 1-3 — BH/RV plays Hull and the Braves play 0-4 Sheldon. Conceivably, there could be a three way tied at 1-4 but if Cherokee beats the Orabs and Western Christian beats Boyden Hull, Cherokee takes the last playoff spot.
District 2
Three teams are tied at 3-1 for first place: Spirit Lake, Kuemper Catholic and OABCIG. Southeast Valley is in 4th at 2-2. This week’s games: KC @ Okoboji; OABCIG @ SE Valley; Estherville Lincoln Central @ Spirit Lake. There could be a three way tie for the district title if all three first place teams win and it goes to the tiebreaker. Southeast Valley has the tiebreaker over Okoboji.
District 3
Waukon is 4-0 and Osage and Crestwood are both 3-1. Crestwood plays Waukon this week and Osage plays winless Forest City so there could be a three way tie for the district title but all three are in the playoffs. North Fayette Valley visits New Hampton this week and the winner will be the four seed.
District 4
There could be a three way tie here as well — currently Dike New Hartford is 4-0 while Roland Story and Hampton Dumont are both 3-1. Dike hosts Hampton and Roland plays at winless Oelwein this week. Like District 3, all three teams have clinched a playoff spot. Denver visits Vinton Shellsburg for the #4 spot.
District 5
Alburnett plays Anamosa this week for the district title. Bellevue plays West Branch for the #3 seed this week. Monticello is still alive for the fourth spot, if West Branch wins and Monticello beats 0-4 Tipton, Monticello wins the tiebreaker.
District 6
Mid Prairie has clinched the district title. Wilton is 3-1 while West Burlington Notre Dame and West Liberty are 2-1. Wilton needs to beat West Liberty to clinch the #2 seed. If West Liberty wins, there could be a three way tie for 2nd if Notre Dame beats Mid Prairie. Mediapolis is still alive for the 4th seed — they play winless Central Lee. A win, a West Burlington loss and a West Liberty loss means a three way tie for 3rd place and it goes to the tiebreaker.
District 7
Centerville and PCM are both 4-0 in the district and play this week for the title with the loser getting the #2 seed. Pella Christian plays Albia this week — the winner is the #3 seed and the loser is the #4 seed.
District 8
Van Meter has the district title in hand. 3-1 Clarinda has clinched the #2 seed and plays 1-3 Woodward Granger. 2-2 Chariton plays 2-2 Grand View Christian. The winner between the Chargers and Thunder clinch a playoff spot. If Woodward Granger wins, they cannot win a playoff spot because they have lost to both Chariton and Grand View so the four teams are decided in this district.
