(Greenfield, IA) — The Ashley Hinson Campaign for the Iowa Senate made a stop in Greenfield on Wednesday and toured the new fire house. The previous fire station was destroyed by the 2024 tornado and the new facility was built on the same site. Firefighters are now working out of the new station although there are still a few final touches before everything is completed.
Hinson says she was impressed with the resilience of the community to get this fire station to near completion
Hinson also talked with Greenfield Mayor Brian Fox about the local community foundation can be an example to other towns recovering from disasters — Hinson hopes that smaller communities can have a plan in place in case they get hit by a tornado. Another issue brought up was how many of the projects in Greenfield have been funded by FEMA. There has been some talk in Washington about shifting things away from FEMA and having the states take the lead and Hinson says she trusts Iowans if that happens
Hinson says there are other issues that small towns in Iowa are facing right now
Senator Joni Ernst was travelling with Hinson on her campaign bus and she says she is having a great time helping the campaign. The bus was heading back to Des Moines for an event on Wednesday, then heading to Sioux City to meet up with South Dakota Senator John Thune on Thursday before going to Northwest Iowa and then Northeast Iowa as they criss cross the state.
