Some Small-Town Iowa Newspapers in Limbo After Mid-America Publishing Stops Publication This Week
(Iowa) — Mid-America Publishing, based in Hampton, Iowa, will end publication this Wednesday, April 1st. The Madrid Register-News announced on Facebook that no one has expressed interest in purchasing the papers to keep them operating. Mid-America Publishing is the parent company for several small-town Iowa newspapers, like the Sigourney News-Review, the Postville Herald and the Ogden Reporter.
More Than 200 Iowa National Guard Troops Have Returned Home From Iraq And Syria
(Iowa) — More Iowa National Guard troops have returned home from the Middle East. The Guard says over 200 Iowa soldiers arrived back in the US last week, after being deployed to Iraq and Syria in an effort to combat ISIS. They were assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division. The guard says two ceremonies are being planned in Cedar Rapids, but the details have not been confirmed yet.
Cedar Rapids Area Booming With New Agriculture, Aerospace, And Data Center Expansions
(Cedar Rapids, IA) — The Cedar Rapids area is expanding into a major technology center in Iowa for agriculture, aerospace, and now data. City Council member Scott Olson says building permits have quadruped to more than two-billion dollars over the past couple years. A major data center is planned for Palo, with access to the nearby nuclear power plant that is being restarted several years after it was shut down.

(Iowa) — Thousands of people across Iowa gathered at more than 50 “No Kings” protests statewide on Saturday. Demonstrations in Des Moines, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, and the Quad Cities each drew hundreds of participants for the third “No Kings” protest held since President Trump took office.
Iowa DNR Reminding Iowa Homeowners to Make Sure They Have Adequate Flood Insurance
(Iowa) — As we enter severe weather season, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources is reminding homeowners to make sure they have adequate flood insurance. Jason Conn with the Iowa DNR says many homeowners think their homeowners’ insurance covers flooding, when a separate flood insurance policy is needed to cover flood damage. The DNR recommends homeowners look up the flood risk in their community and contact their insurance agent to make sure they have the right flood insurance coverage.
