(Greenfield, IA) — Nodaway Valley baseball has been focusing on getting off to better starts. The Wolverines are 4-16 which does not reflect the way the team is playing says Head Coach Dan Jameson. He says there has been one or two innings where the game have gotten away from his club, most of the time early. In a 8-0 loss to Lenox, the Tigers scored all eight runs in the first three innings. Last Thursday, East Union scored 5 runs in the opening inning to help them win 11-3. On Friday, Wayne scored 2 runs in the first and won 3-2. Jameson says they need their starters on the mound to relax and settle into the game
Seniors Ty Strode and Will Schilling and Junior Manolis Galanakis lead the team in innings pitched and Senior Remington Woolsey is not far behind. Galanakis has 4 starts and 9 appearances with a 2-2 record and 3.57 ERA.
Offensively, Nodaway Valley is starving for runs, averaging 4.15 per game and hitting just .212 as a team. Strode is hitting .312 and Sophomore Titan Foster is batting .315 to lead the way and Foster has 38 stolen bases which ranks 5th in the entire state
Tonight, Nodaway Valley has a tough game hosting #2 ranked Martensdale St. Mary’s. The Wolverines had a respectable showing the first time around losing 8-2 to the Blue Devils.
On Tuesday, Nodaway Valley will host Southeast Warren and they finish the regular season on Wednesday at Stanton — Jameson says they are games that the Wolverines can win
Nodaway Valley will play West Central Valley at 5:00 on Friday in the first round of the 2A playoffs hosted by Woodward Granger.
