Fatal Police Shooting in Des Moines Leads to Discovery Of Dead Body
(Des Moines, IA) — A fatal officer-involved shooting in Des Moines led to the discovery of a dead body. Police were responding to a welfare check Tuesday evening at an apartment building on Southeast 5th Street when they encountered an armed person in a common area. The person was shot by police and pronounced dead at the scene. They conducted the welfare check and found a dead body in the apartment. An investigation is underway and Des Moines Police are scheduled to release more information Wednesday morning.
Nine Students Injured In Crash Near Central Iowa Catholic School
(Ankeny, IA) — Nine students were injured in a crash outside of St. Luke’s Catholic School in Ankeny Tuesday afternoon. The Ankeny Police Department says the students were on the curb waiting to be picked up from school when a vehicle crashed into them. Sergeant Trevor McGraw says all the students were taken to a local hospital but their conditions are unknown. Several of the injuries were described as serious. McGraw says they don’t think the crash was intentional. The driver of the vehicle was not hurt and no charges have been filed.
Democrat Xavier Carrigan Kicked Off Primary Ballot In Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District After Objection Hearing
(Des Moines, IA) — A Democrat has been removed from the primary for one of Iowa’s congressional races. The Iowa Objection Board is striking Democrat Xavier Carrigan’s name from the third district primary ballot. He was short on overall signatures needed and in some counties where he needed at least 47 signatures. His removal leaves State Senator Sarah Trone Garriott as the lone Democrat in Iowa’s Third Congressional District race.
Bill Would Allow Iowa Drivers To Have Darker Window Tint, Passes In Iowa Senate
(Des Moines, IA) — A bill in the State Legislature would allow Iowa drivers to have slightly darker window tint on their driver and passenger side windows. House File 766 would let the driver’s side and passenger side windows be tinted so just 50-percent of light would penetrate into the vehicle. Under current law, windshields and front side windows must let 70-percent of outside light pass through the glass. It passed the Iowa Senate on Monday.
