(Atlantic) — Atlantic jumped out to a commanding early lead and never looked back in a 13-3 win over Panorama in non-conference baseball action Wednesday night.
The Trojans tallied 13 runs on 11 hits, while holding Panorama to three runs on seven hits.
Atlantic put the game out of reach early, scoring two runs in the first, five in the second, two more in the third, one in the fifth, and ending it with a walk-off bases-loaded walk in the sixth.
Gavin McLaren and Kale Jensen powered the Trojans offensively. McLaren delivered an RBI single in the first and crushed a three-run homer in the second. Jensen, who entered the game hitting .422 with a .781 slugging percentage, added a two-RBI triple and a double, while scoring four runs. Hudson McLaren also contributed a double and scored three times.
The Trojans sent ten batters to the plate in a five-run second inning. A pitch hit Jack Muller, Collin Harris reached on an error, and both scored. Then, back-to-back walks to Hudson McLaren and Kale Jensen. Gavin McLaren then cleared them with a three-run shot over the left-field fence, stretching the lead to 7-0. The offensive surge continued in the third when Kale Jensen ripped a two-run triple and scored on Sawyer Tarrell’s RBI single, giving Atlantic a 10-0 advantage.
Panorama’s only threat came in the fourth inning loading the bases with a single, back-to-back walks Jaxon Vogel, Brayden Meinecke, and an RBI single off the bat of Parker Cary. The Trojans ended the game early in the bottom of the sixth on the bases loaded walk to secure the 13-3 advantage.
Atlantic travels to Red Oak on Thursday, and travel to Greene County on Monday, and head to Harlan on Friday, July 11 for a Substate quarterfinal. Panorama travels to Ogden on Saturday for a first round Class 2A Substate matchup.
