(Atlantic) – The Atlantic baseball team heads into this week’s games with momentum, having won four of their last six. Head Coach Nathan Block told listeners during Saturday’s Coaches Show on 95.7 FM that he’s pleased with the recent stretch.
The week began with a 7-3 victory over Kuemper, highlighted by a dominant pitching performance from Hudson McLaren. The junior pitched a perfect game through six innings, facing 18 batters, and striking out 12.
The Trojans stumbled on Tuesday with an 11-2 loss to Clarinda but bounced back Wednesday with a 15-5 win over Griswold. Coach Block praised Grant Petty for five strong innings on the mound and said it was encouraging to see the offense heat up again.
Atlantic kept rolling Thursday with an 8-2 win over Shenandoah. The Trojans built a 7-0 lead early, with Kale Jensen earning the win and Gavin McLaren locking down the save. Block credited strong defense and timely hitting in the victory.
The Trojans open the new week at home on Monday night with a doubleheader against St. Albert. Coach Block noted that the Falcons, currently in the middle of the Hawkeye Ten Conference standings, are led by two of the league’s top strikeout pitchers—Owen Marshall (37 strikeouts, 11 walks in 27 innings) and Lance Betts (32 strikeouts, 11 walks in 18.1 innings).
St. Albert enters at 6-11, while Atlantic sits at 5-12. First pitch for game one is set for 5:30 p.m.
