(Atlantic) — Creston senior Taryn Fredrickson was dominant in the circle Tuesday night, tossing a one-hit shutout to lead the Panthers to a 4-0 road victory over Atlantic.
Fredrickson struck out 12, walked two, and allowed just three base runners over seven innings. She also helped her own cause at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI.
Creston tallied seven hits in the win. Sidney Staver chipped in with two singles, while Ava Adamson, Jersey Foote, and Mila Kuhns each added one. Adamson reached on an error to lead off the game and scored on Fredrickson’s RBI double to put the Panthers up 1-0 in the first. Atlantic Head Coach Terry Hinzmann says despite the loss, McLaren did a nice job in the circle for the Trojans.
Atlantic pitcher Peyton McLaren kept it close, holding Creston to one run through five innings. She finished the complete game with two strikeouts and one walk.
Creston extended its lead in the sixth with Kuhns’ RBI single and tacked on two more in the seventh on Fredrickson’s two-run base hit, making it 4-0.
Zoey Kirchhoff broke up Fredrickson’s no-hit bid with a single in the bottom of the seventh, but Fredrickson retired the next three batters to close out the win.
Atlantic (10-5) hosts Glenwood on Thursday. Creston (12-4) will welcome Red Oak for a doubleheader.
Before the game former Atlantic great Shelly Glynn Pellett (Pictured) was inducted into the Atlantic Softball Hall of Fame.
