Robert “Bob” Parker Lehman, age 78 of Adair, IA, passed away at his home in Adair with his family at his side after a battle with cancer. He was born the oldest child of Dallas and Mary (Harris) Lehman on December 28, 1945, near Adair, IA. Bob grew up on the family farm north of Adair and attended a country school until it’s closure, then attended Adair-Casey Community School until his sophomore year.
Bob would spend his summers helping his dad paint houses, walking beans and detasseling corn to earn money to buy his first car – a pink rambler. Bob first went to work at the Redfield Brickyard after leaving school. Later jobs included Emmert Manufacturing in Audubon, IA, and working at a Machine Shop in Adair, IA.
On September 3, 1966, Bob was united in marriage to Laurel Garside and were parents of three wonderful children, Allen, Andrew and Angela.
In 1970, Bob was drafted into the United States Army and spent his time working with Persing Missiles. After his Honorable Discharge in 1972, he returned back to the Adair Machine Shop until 1979 when he went to work at Gould (Mahle) in Atlantic for over 37 years. While in the service, Bob received his GED while in the service and would later attend Iowa Western Community College and receive his Journeyman Tool & Die Degree. Bob spent several years on the Adair Fire Department and the last few years has helped out at the Auto Splash Car Wash. He enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels in his yard and built many houses for them. Taking his two youngest granddaughters fishing and riding bicycles was a great joy to him.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Dallas and Mary Lehman; brother-in-law, Robert Larsen; In-laws, Merle and Emma Garside, and Carl and Lois Nelson, Darrell Carlson and Twila Garside.
He is survived by his wife, Laurel Lehman of Adair; sons, Allen (Randi Sue) Lehman of Guthrie Center, IA and Andrew Lehman of Adair; his daughter, Angela (Jason) Hill of Harper, TX; grandchildren, Tanner (Shaina) Lehman of Casey, IA, Tori Lehman of Guthrie Center, IA, Charli and Corri Lehman of Guthrie Center, IA, Jaron (Maggie) Alexander, Ashlynn, Nowlen and Evan (Mary Beth) Hill of Texas; Eight great grandchildren; brothers, Don (Kathy) Lehman, Jerry (Connie) Lehman all of Anita, IA, Gene (Keri) Lehman of Van Meter, IA; sisters, Judy Larsen and Jane McCann both of Anita, IA, along with many nieces and nephews; in-laws, Lyle (Norma Garside of Exira, IA, Leo (Elaine) Garside of Atlantic, IA, Lee Garside of Adair, IA and Linda Carlson of Atlantic, IA.
Graveside Funeral Service and Military Honors will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 11 am in the Sunny Hill Cemetery in Adair, Iowa with Rev. Kyle Fever officiating. Honors will be rendered by the Iowa National Guard and Adair American Legion. A visitation with the family present will be from 10 am till the time of services at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Adair. A luncheon will follow the services at the cemetery at Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Adair.
