Maralynn Mae Boruff of rural Carson, daughter of Clarence and Elsie (Spencer) McClain, was born in rural Wheeler Grove on May 21, 1936. Maralyn died on September 12, 2024, at the age of 88 years, 3 months, and 22 days.
Maralynn attended school in Macedonia and graduated from Carson with the class of 1954. She was an excellent basketball player and even played some semipro five on five basketball in Omaha after graduation. She married Delmar Boruff in 1957, at the Carson Methodist Church. They lived in rural Carson. To this union, two sons were born, John and Bill.
Maralynn worked a variety of jobs. She delivered auto parts, was a mail carrier, and owned and operated the 1st soft serve ice cream parlor in southwest Iowa/southeast Nebraska. After she and Del were married, they added a restaurant and named it Jumbo Freeze Café. Their family celebrated many birthdays, holidays and family get togethers there.
Maralynn was an avid bowler and won a trophy in Burlington, Iowa in 1966. Bill says he witnessed mom at least on two occasions bowling a perfect 300 game with a 16-pound ball with six holes drilled in it for different spins on her throws. She loved to go to auctions and work on vehicles. She was raised at the service station and was very adept at mechanical work.
Maralynn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Delmar Boruff; her four brothers: Howard, Laurence, Wayne and Duane McClain, and a sister Naomi Nelson.
She is survived by her two sons: John of Carson and Bill of Oakland; her grandchildren: David Delmar Boruff and wife Lacie, Becca Ann Boruff, and two great granddaughters: Brooklynn and Blakely Boruff.
A celebration of life visitation for Maralynn will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the Legacy Baptist Church in Oakland, from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM. A time of sharing will be held at 9:45 AM. Interment will be in Carson Cemetery at 11:00 AM. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family with arrangements.
