(Anita, IA) – The CAM Cougars girl’s basketball team featured a more than successful season, finishing 21-3 overall and at the top of the Rolling Valley Conference at 14-2. While falling to Montezuma in the Regional Championship, the Cougars played tough and Head Coach Joe Wollum wouldn’t have had his girls play the game any other way.
The Cougars were led by a phenomenal group of seniors this season. They continued to build the culture at CAM to become one of the best in the conference and in the region. This group of seniors continued to lead the way this season with Eva Steffensen, Kiera Nichols, Meredith Rich, Emma Follman, Carley Dennis, Irelyn Gundy, and Payton Laporte.
With a few honors to mention this season, Eva Steffensen, Kiera Nichols, and Meredith Rich all were named to IBCA All-Region honors for Region Eight. Alongside those honors for CAM, Coach Joe Wollum was named the Region Eight Coach of the Year, and he thanks his girls for being able to give him that honor.
Speaking of the IBCA, the All-Star game will give the opportunity to see Eva Steffensen on the hardwood once again. Steffensen was selected for the Southwest team among many state champions and some of the top players in the state. Coach Wollum was also chosen to be one of the coaches for the game, which is not only exciting but a major accomplishment.
This CAM team will be very young next year. They had such an experienced and poised senior class that helped to teach the younger players to develop underneath. It will be a different team for CAM, but the philosophy remains the same for the Cougars.
CAM finished the season with a Rolling Valley Conference Championship, a 21-3 record, and sat at 14-2 in conference play.
