(Atlantic) The Atlantic softball team achieved a doubleheader sweep against Harlan on Monday, winning 8-0 and 3-1.
In the first game, the Trojans struggled to find the big hit early on, despite getting runners on base. However, they broke through in the fifth inning, scoring six runs and adding two more in the sixth to secure an 8-0 victory. Brynn Lamp pitched a complete game, allowing no runs and striking out six while giving up just three hits. Lila Wiederstein led the offense with a triple and three RBIs, and Claire Schroder contributed with a 2-3 outing that included a double and an RBI.
Taylor Heese led the Cyclones with two singles.
The second game saw a closer contest, but Atlantic still came out on top 3-1. They scored a run in the first inning and added two more in the fifth. Coach Hinzmann noted that while they hit the ball well, Harlan’s defense was solid throughout the game. Kinsely Johnson picked up the win for Atlantic in this matchup. London Kirchhoff went 2-3 at the plate with a double to lead the Trojans. Schroder was 1-2 with a double and an RBI.
Suzy Kenkel and Avery Manz each stroked singles for the Cyclones.
Atlantic extends its record to 7-0 on the season. Harlan falls to 1-4.
