Suzanne Renee Lees, age 60, of Walnut, Iowa, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at her home surrounded by family after her courageous battle with breast cancer. Suzanne was born February 23, 1964, in Red Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Loyd and Gladys (Trautman) Bowen. She was raised south of Emerson, Iowa, on the family farm. Suzanne graduated from Nishna Valley High School in 1982 and attended Nebraska College of Business. She was united in marriage to Paul Lees on May 21, 1988, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa. As a young child, Suzanne started worshiping at the Oaks Community Church north of Emerson, Iowa, and was currently a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Walnut, Iowa. She served the youth in numerous roles teaching and sharing about her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Sunday School, JOY Club, Vacation Bible School, and ProTeens. Over the years, Suzanne assisted her father, Loyd, custom harvesting wheat from Oklahoma to North Dakota. She also worked for Richards and Son Agri Supply in Emerson and the United States Postal Service. She was most recently working hand in hand with Paul in the family farming operation and enjoyed operating the combine during harvest. Suzanne was a member of the neighborhood club for many years and the Walnut Genealogy Society. She enjoyed flower gardening, keeping up her lawn, and going to the lake, but most of all, being a mother.
Preceding her in death were her parents and mother-in-law: JoAnn Lees. Survivors include her husband: Paul Lees of Walnut, IA; children: Erika Lees of Maryville, MO; Blaine Lees and wife Beth of Cherokee, IA; and Ashley Wolfe and husband Tristan of Red Oak, IA; brother: Ron Bowen of Imogene, IA; sisters: Luann Hughbanks of Council Bluffs, IA and Carol Bowen of Malvern, IA; father-in-law: Charles Lees of Avoca, IA; sister-in-law: Cheryl Carrasco and husband Carlos of Litchfield Park, AZ; nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, March 1, 2024, at the Walnut Community Center in Walnut, Iowa. Burial will be in the Lincoln Township Cemetery near Walnut, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Thursday, February 29, 2024, at the Walnut Community Center in Walnut, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
